Colm “Wolf Man” Woulfe dominated New Zealand’s strongman scene between 2012 and 2014 before coming to Australia in 2015 to pursue a professional career in the sport.
For Woulfe, the choice to compete in strongman over powerlifting is obvious, “It requires more athleticism than powerlifting. I wanted to be as strong as possible and this is the best strength sport,” he says matter-of-factly.
Being as strong as possible does have its drawbacks, however. Woulfe remembers a time in a restaurant sitting next to a private function room, “My chair broke due to my weight and as I tried to catch myself I instinctively threw my arm out and ended up taking the entire wall out.” Everyone in the restaurant – including a very shocked group of private diners – stared as he was on a heap at the floor. Ouch.
