Johan Els, South Africa, is making his 3rdappearance at the 2018 Tachi Palace World’s Strongest Man. This part-time strongman is a self-employed Tavern manager and owner in Central South Africa.
“Ever since being a child I always enjoyed challenging my strength & ability to lift and move heavy items. Growing up on a farm, my brothers and I did a lot of hard labor… our father was hard on us.”
Johan believes that competing as a Strongman is a huge accomplishment and gives him a feeling of self-worth. “So many messages from around the world about how I am inspiring them. There have been times when I went to the gym, and just cried…not lifted any weights.”
